🏑The Silent Greenhouse

πŸ” The Case

Elias Moore, a famous botanist, was found dead inside his locked greenhouse at 6:30 a.m. He had a deep cut on his arm and collapsed beside a table of rare poisonous plants.

The greenhouse door was locked from the inside. The windows were sealed.
Three people had access the previous night:

  • Mara, his assistant, who watered the plants at 7:00 p.m.

  • Jonah, his brother, who argued with him at 8:30 p.m.

  • Lena, a journalist, who interviewed him at 9:00 p.m.

A broken glass vial lay near Elias’s body. The police initially ruled it an accident, until they noticed Elias had written one word on a leaf beside him: “light.”

πŸ€”Pause and Think

Why wasn’t this an accident, and who is responsible?

πŸ’Solution

Elias wasn’t killed by the plants.

The cut on his arm wasn’t fatal. The clue is “light.” The greenhouse lights are controlled by a timer that turns off at 10:00 p.m.

Only Mara, the assistant, knew this. She replaced the vial of harmless plant extract with poison, knowing Elias would cut himself while working after dark, when visibility was poor. The locked door and sealed windows made it seem like an accident.

Mara is the murderer.
